Gangrenous balanitis occurring as a complication of venereal ulcers specially chancroid, is not uncommon in the venereal disease pratice in South India. Fusiform bacilli and non- syphilitic spirochetes can usually be isolated from such lesions. The following case, however, is of interest because phagedena, developing out of a clear sky without sexual exposure, involved the entire shaft penis within 12 days.
