| Incidence of Contact Hypersensitivity and Cross Sensitivity of Neomycin Group of Antibiotics AK Bajaj, Rajeev Sharma September-October 1985, 51(5):271-273One hundred consecutive patients suspected to have contact dermatitis due to topical medicaments were patch tested with 20% neomycin, framycetin, gentamicin as well as other commercially available antibacterial agents. Neomycin sensitivity was observed in 16.0% cases, while framycetin and gentamicin sensitivity was seen in 11.0% and 4.2% respectively. Fifty percent neomycin hypersensitive cases cross - reacted with framycetin and 22.00/o cross reactivity was observed with getamicin. |

| Marking Nut Dermatitis F Handa, Pradeep Sharma September-October 1985, 51(5):268-270Two patients aged 12 and 16 years, developed severe dermatitis on their face and hands with oedema and hyperpigmentation following contact with the marking nut. Patch tests with the marking nut produced a buila with hyperpigmentation in both the patients, as also in all the 5 normal unexposed controls. Marking nut is considered to be a storng irritant. |

| A Study of Puvasol and Puvasol with Triamcinolone Acetonide in Psoriasis Vulgaris RK Dutta, PK Guba, BS Rathore September-October 1985, 51(5):263-265In a comparative study, 60 patients of psoriasis vulgaris were subjected to PUVASOL and PUVASOL with trimcinolone acetonide in two different groups of 30 patients each. Patients given photochemotherapy with 8 MOP and local application of trimacinolone acetonide showed marked imorovement (66.6% and 60%) after 4 and 8 weeks of therapy in comparison to 26.6% and 16.6% in the group where no topical corticosteroids were applied. None of the patients showed any adverse reaction to the treatment. |

| A Randomized Double Blind Study of Ointment Containing Diflucortolone Valerate and Hydrocortisone Acetate F Handa, KPS Puri September-October 1985, 51(5):261-262DiflucortolonevalerateO.1percentand hydrocortisone acetate 1.0 percent were compared in a randomized double blind contralateral, intra individual trial in fifty-two patients. Duration of treatment was three weeks. Both the drugs showed significant response after the first second and the third weeks of treatment. At all periods the reduction in pre-treatment signs and symptoms was greater for diflucortolone as compared to hydrocortisone. Response to therapy in eczema was very good in 89.1 percent cases and good 10.9 per cent. Patients having psoriasis and chronic DIE showed very good response in 33.3 per cent and good in 66.6 per cent cases. There were no side effects. |

| Pattern of Contact Dermatitis Amongst Soldiers VD Tiwari, MA Tutakne, RK Dutta, G Singh September-October 1985, 51(5):274-276Six hundred and fifty seven cases suspected to have contact dermatitis reporting at 14 dermatological centres of armed forces hospitals during a 12-month period were investigated. One hundred sixty one cases Showed positive patch tests. Sixty-five cases showed positive patch tests with footwear materials including rubber, leather and canvas. Clothing, topical medicaments, airborne allergens and marking ink were responsible in 5.75%, 25%, 3.82% and 0.85% patients respectively. |
