| Jaundice, an Early Clinical Manifestation of Secondary Syphilis G Borroni November-December 1980, 46(6):356-358Hepatitis is an uncommon manifestation of early acquired syphilis. A case of secondary syphilis presenting with jaundice and papular eruption is reported. The icterus was slight and responded romptly to penicillin therapy, transaminase levels were moderately increased. Alkaline phosphatase was elevated. Jaundice was due to an inc of both conjugated and unconjugated bilirubin; serological reactions for syphilis were positive. |

| Leptosphaeria Senegalensis Causing Mycetoma Pedis in Madras VV Taralakshmi, VV Pankajalakshmi, CN Pandurangan November-December 1980, 46(6):364-367Two cases of eumycetoma pedis caused by Leptosphaeria senegalensis in Twnilians are reported. Both presented with swelling of the foot and multiple sinuses discharging serosanguinous material which contained black granules. In the first case, the specific diagnosis was made by histopathology and isolation of, L. senegalensis. In the other, the eristic granules were tissue section. |

| Secondary Syphilis: a Histopathological Study RK Basumatary, Ratan Singh November-December 1980, 46(6):341-345The histopathological patterns were studied in 44 biopsies from 31 cases of secondary syphilis. The classical picture of syphilis was observed in majority of the cases, but it was lacking or inconspicuous in 22.72% cases. Granulomatous reaction was observed in 15.9% cases during early stage of the disease. Epidermal changes like hyporkeratosis, parakeratosis, exocytosis, spongiosis and acanthosis were frequently seen. Keratotic plugging was observed in 11.36%, hypergranulosis in 2.27% cases and basal cell degeneration in 33.63% cases. |

| Hendersonula Toruloidea Infection of Human Skin and Nails SM Singh, AK Barde November-December 1980, 46(6):350-355Four cases of skin and nail infection by Hendersonula toruloidea are described from India. Infections were confined to the feet which showed scaling and dystrophic nails. The presence of brown hyphae with knobbled swellings in the nail tissue and repeated isolation of H. toraloidea in pure culture are taken as evidence that this fungus was invading the tissues. |

| Perforation of the Palate in Scleroma NK Soni, P Chatterji November-December 1980, 46(6):375-376A case of sclerotma with perforation of the palate is described. The patient presented a picture suggestive of syphilitic granuloma with perforation of the nasal septum and the palate. The diagnosis of scleroma was made on the basis of histopathology. The case was treated by surgical resection of the nasal mass and with antibiotics for a period of 3 months. The aetiopathogenesis of the clinical of the features in this case is discussed briefly in the light of available literature. |
