| Sexually Transmiwed Diseases in Children

May-June 1977, 43(3):155-157A decinial study (1966 to 1975) was undertaken to assess the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases in children, upto the age of 12 years. There were only 135 (0.63%) children, out of 2l,550patientsregisteredina 'VDclinic. who were found to be suffering fro4 sexually' transmitted diseases. Numberof female children (93) was more than twice the number of male children (42). Syphilis was seen in 34.8% and gonon-hhoea in 25.1% of cases. VenereaUy acquired n ic vulvo-vaginitis was seen in 23.4% of cases. Other STD were seen occasinally. It was observed that 49 patients acquired infection from their older playmates, 25 patients from their parents and 21 patients from a neighhour, relative or baby sitter. |

| Exfoliative Dermatitis: Study of Systemic Manifestations

May-June 1977, 43(3):145-148This report is a study of 40 cases of exfoliative dermatitis with special reference to systemic manifestations. The condition was frequently observed in 3rd to 5th (75 %) decades of life with male to female ratio of 3: 1. The duration of the disease was usually short. In majority of cases, drugs were the precipitating factors. Lymphadenopathy was observed in 70% cases with hepatomegaly in 25% and splenomegaly in 7.5% cases. 37.5% of cases had pyrexia during their illness without any evidence of infection, pointing towards a poor temperature mechanism. Cardio-vascular system revealed hyperdynamic circulation in 20% of cases. All patients had hypoalbuminaemia and 27.5% of cases had oedema of feet. |

| Urticaria Calorica

May-June 1977, 43(3):138-142Fourteen cases of urticaria calorica, comprising0.7% of total skin out-patient attendance and 8.6% of total urticaria cases were seen during a period of eight months. Exercise test produced micropapular urticarial lesions in 100% cases and this is considered to be the most convenient and easy method of detection. Persistence of erythema at the site, 10 minutes after application of heat, has also been found to be diagnostic. Wheal and erythema due to intradermal injection of carbachol was significantly more as compared to normal individuals. No case of local heat utricaria was seen. |

| Cutaneous Larva Migrans

The child developed papular, vesicular and pustular lesions on the right side of the buttock accompanied by serpentinous thread like lesions.
